The name Troubadour Dali conjures images of a rough-worn, alt-country styled act, especially in the criminally over-banjoed town of St. Louis. Luckily, though, the band that goes by the moniker hues more toward the "Dali" portion of the name than the "Troubadour," twisting surreal landscapes from the standard two guitars, bass and drums rock and roll lineup. Their self-titled, self-released debut album dropped in 2009, spanning eight tracks of psych-rock goodness that, while it doesn't break new ground, adds some nice decoration to the well-worn path it travels.

Out Sounds Coming In

The songs on Troubadour Dali, broken down to their elements, seem influenced equally by the harder-edged psychedelic garage of the sixties and the effects-driven shoegaze and dream pop of the late eighties and early nineties. Unlike many of the more indulgent bands of those movements, however, these Troubadours sculpt actual songs from the massive hunks of musical matter exploding from their amps.
