Even after 6 seasons, a lot of people, mostly women and girls, still watch The Hills on MTV. After years of weepy boyfriend dramas, titillating girl-on-girl confrontations in nightclubs, and endless longshots of multiple golden-haired girls striding confidently “to lunch” with multiple other golden-haired girls, The Hills has suffered a steady decline in ratings, but managed to pull in increasing numbers of 30+ women. The Sex and the City crowd are also apparently, equally enamored of The Hills.

This might be attributed to the sheer audacity of the cast’s fantastic lives – recorded, to be sure, even scripted, if many reports are to be believed. But, in-your-face prosperous all the same, as though the recession was a kind of inconvenient unpleasantness reserved only for CNN and the crassly middle-class.

The Hills follows the lives and dramas, captured primarily in “talking scenes” between the players, of a group of young, impossibly good-looking, rich Californians – sometimes friends and at other times, frenemies. But always fabulous.
